Getting started with UQ Planner

Create your account and organisation, invite your team, set up your first project and board, and create your first task in UQ Planner — step by step.

UQ Planner organises work in three levels: an organisation (your company or team) holds projects, and each project has a board of tasks plus a documentation space. This guide takes about ten minutes and ends with your team on a working board.

1. Create your account and organisation

  1. Open Get started and enter your name, email and a password (at least 6 characters).
  2. Tick Create an organization and type its name — usually your company. You can also choose a slug (3–30 lowercase letters, digits or hyphens); it appears in your docs' Git URLs. Leave it empty to have one generated.
  3. Press Create Account (this accepts the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy). You become the organisation's Owner.

2. Invite your team

  1. In the sidebar, open Members (shown to Owners and Admins).
  2. Under Invite by email, enter a colleague's email and pick a role — Member or Admin. See roles and permissions for the difference.
  3. They receive an email titled “You've been invited to <your organisation> on UQ Planner”. The link is valid for 14 days; you can resend or revoke pending invites from the same page.

The Owner can also create a user directly with a temporary password (no email is sent) — handy for a shared QA account. If that email already has a UQ Planner account, that account is simply added to your organisation.

3. Create your first project

  1. Open Projects in the sidebar and create a project.
  2. Give it a name and, ideally, a short code such as WEB. Task keys are built from it: WEB-1, WEB-2… Without a short code, one is derived from the name.
  3. Pick a workflow. The default one gives you the columns Todo → In Progress → Test → Done; you can design your own later (custom workflows).
  4. Optionally choose a default task template so every new task starts with the same fields (card templates), add a description and tags.
  5. Open the project's members view and add the people who will work on it. Members only see projects they belong to; Owners and Admins see every project.

4. Create your first task

  1. Open the project — you land on its board, one column per workflow status.
  2. Create a task, give it a title, and optionally an assignee, labels and dates.
  3. Drag the card from column to column as the work moves. Everyone on the project sees the same board.

For bigger pieces of work create an Epic and put tasks and bugs under it; break a task into subtasks. All of it is explained in boards, tasks and cards.

What to set up next

  • Write the project's spec in its docs space — and clone it with Git if you prefer your editor.
  • Let an AI coding agent work tickets with the uqplanner CLI.
  • Check your email notification settings under Account → Notifications.
  • Pick light or dark mode with the theme switch in the top bar.

Still stuck?

Email hello@uniqtech.dev with what you tried and, if it is about a task, its key (for example PRO-13). Pro organisations are answered first. Billing questions: see Contact.
